Tea Tree Oil

 

 

Tea Tree Oil

 

Tea tree oil has dandruff-clearing action as it is anti-fungal in nature. It consists of terpinen-4-ol that makes it strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that kills the bacteria and fungus. This reduces the overproduction of skin cells causing dandruff. It also clears clogged hair follicles.

 

How to Use?

 

  • Dilute 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil in two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Massage it onto the scalp and leave it for a couple of hours
  • Shampoo as usual and repeat this remedy twice or thrice a day
  • You may also add 10 to 20 drops of tea tree oil to the shampoo for effective cleansing in every wash
  • You can also make a tea tree oil rinse by adding 5 to 10 drops of tea tree oil in a cup of water
  • Use it as a final rinse
  • Repeat this remedy at least twice a week for effective results

 

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties that clear the scalp from fungus and dandruff. It also moisturizes the scalp and prevents dryness, which is the major cause for dandruff. It helps in exfoliating the dead cells off the scalp. The amino acids present in it facilitate healthy hair growth and gives strong and shiny hair.

 

How to Use?

  • Slit open an aloe vera leaf and obtain the gel
  • Shampoo the hair as usual and rinse it off warm water
  •  Take one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and massage it onto the scalp
  • Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Rinse the hair but do not shampoo.

Coconut oil has great benefit for the skin and hair. It moisturizes the skin well and helps in reducing redness and irritation. It has antibacterial properties that combat folliculitis. It acts as a barrier between the environmental pollutant and the scalp. It helps in growing long and healthy hair.

 

How to Use?

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in the microwave for few seconds
  • Massage the oil into the scalp and the roots
  • Do this at least for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Wrap the head with a warm towel for half an hour so that it penetrates deep into the scalp
  •  You may also leave it overnight after massaging the oil onto the scalp
  • Wash it off with mild shampoo
  • Repeat this twice or thrice a day

Lemon

 

Lemon is an excellent home remedy to get rid of dandruff and itchy scalp. It has antibacterial property and that treats all sorts of scalp infections. It should be noted that lemon juice may hurt if it is used on broken skin. It should be used only after dilution with water or any carrier oils.

 

How to Use?

  • Take two tablespoons of lemon juice and add it to half cup of water
  • Massage it onto the scalp and leave it for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Rinse off using mild shampoo
  •  You may also mix lemon juice with yogurt to get rid of dandruff
  • Add about 5 to 10 drops of fresh lemon juice to 2 to 3 tablespoons of yogurt
  • Apply it on the scalp and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes
  • Rinse and repeat at least twice a week 
Baking Soda

Baking Soda

Baking soda is also an excellent remedy for itchy scalp. It has exfoliating properties that removes dead skin cells and clears dandruff. It also balances the pH level of the scalp and relives itchiness.

 

How to Use?

  • Massage the scalp with some olive oil
  • Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with water to make a paste
  • Apply this on the scalp
  • Let it work for 15 minutes
  • Rinse it off with plenty of water

Apple Cider Vinegar

 

Apple cider vinegar has pH balancing effects on the scalp that gets rid of dryness and itching. The alpha hyroxy acids in apple cider vinegar exfoliate the top layers of the skin and cures psoriasis. It has disinfectant properties and thus it kills fungus. It also reduces inflammation and also removed build-up on the scalp. It cleanses the scalp well and adds to the shine.

 

How to Use?

  • Add one-fourth cup of apple vinegar to one-fourth cup of water
  • Pour this solution into a spray bottle
  • Spray it on the hair and scalp
  •  Wrap the hair using a towel and leave it for 30 minutes to one hour
  • Rinse it off with plenty of water
  •  You may also apply apple cider vinegar directly on the scalp using a cotton ball
  • Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off
  • Repeat this remedy twice or thrice a week for about one month to get of itchy scalp completely  

 

The above remedies are tried and tested and found to be very useful in clearing the scalp and all the factors leading to it.
